NXP Semiconductors has developed a chip to simplify authentication and security of devices in the Internet of Things (IoT)

The EdgeLock A5000 chip adds security throughout the product lifecycle, including many IoT use cases, as well as smart city infrastructure and connected industrial equipment. It is used to verify device identities during secure communication, assessing whether data comes from trustworthy sources, checking authenticity of product sub-components to ensure overall systems integrity, product safety and performances, or verifying the authenticity of a product or component.

The chip is certified to Common Criteria EAL6+ AVA_VAN.5 (up to the OS) to enable authentication mechanisms to provide turnkey authentication plug-in with any type of microcontroller, microprocessor or connectivity platform, such as a Wi-Fi SoC, via the I2C interface.

The EdgeLock A5000 supports a wide temperature range of -40 to +105 °C, enabling it to be used in applications such as industrial equipment, smart city infrastructure components or appliances.

The chip is accompanied by dedicated application guidelines and software examples for individual use cases, such as device authentication, cloud onboarding, inclusion in the Matter smart home ecosystem, smart metering, electric vehicle charging, Qi 1.3 wireless charging authentication, gaming and others. This allows developers to focus on the specific application implementation with security.

这也avoids the need for key management infrastructure to handle devices’ credentials when using NXP’s EdgeLock 2GO secure infrastructure and services. This includes the ability to support complex configurations or to comply with Qi 1.3 and Matter standards and EdgeLock 2GO Managed for managing credentials and multiple services, such as credential rotation, throughout the device lifecycle.
