Such sensors are particularly well suited for this application because they detect objects and their direction of movement very reliably, largely independent of weather and light conditions, and do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the identity of persons. The objects detected are classified using the recently released Blickfeld Percept software. The data provided by the sensors is further processed by EvoCount’s specialised crowd management software to provide an overview of the current number of visitors at any time and to limit the access to prevent overcrowding.
The combination of EvoCount’s people counting expertise and Blickfeld’s 3D lidar sensor solutions had already demonstrated its potential in several projects at the IAA Mobility 2021 trade fair in Munich: In order to make the trade fair as safe as possible for visitors in pandemic times, Blickfeld Cube-1 sensors recorded streams of visitors in the centre of Munich, where some of the trade activities took place. The movement data were analysed using Blickfeld and EvoCount software. In addition, during the event the two partner companies jointly created so-called “heat maps” of various exhibition stands based on lidar data, which show how the public traffic is distributed there in real time by means of colour gradations. In this way, the solution helps to protect people’s health during the pandemic and also to protect the sensitive environment from the consequences of too intensive tourist use.

Currently, the two companies are developing further application scenarios, for example to classify vehicles in car parks.
