The M14Kc core leverages advanced code compression technology to deliver performance of 1.5 DMIPS/MHz while reducing code size by up to 35 percent, according to MIPS (Sunnyvale, Calif.).

"The industry-standard M14Kc core offers high performance and low power consumption with groundbreaking code compression technology," said SC Liu, president of Mobile Devices, in a statement. "With MIPS, we are helping our customers bring robust solutions to market quickly at the lowest possible cost."

Art Swift, vice president of marketing and business development at MIPS, said the company has a growing footprint in the mobile arena, with an increasing number of companies recognizing the benefits of the MIPS architecture.

Since late 2009,MIPS has been aggressively targeting customers that make chips for cellular handsets, an area long dominated by the architecture of MIPS’ rival ARM Holdings plc.
