US Army expands deployment of LiFi
PureLiFi in Scotland has secured a second multi-million-dollar deal to supply the US Army with thousands of units of its LiFi Defence system, Kitefin.
This uses free-space light modulation to carry data which is more secure than WiFi or 4G and 5G. PureLiFi has demonstrated a mobile phone with integrated LiFI (see video below).

This follows a $4.2m deal earlier in the year that was the largest rollout of LiFi technology so far despite a number of trials around the world, including with BMW.

LiFi not only enhances the US Army’s wireless connectivity toolset, but has demonstrated in action, that LiFi solves real problems faced by defence and national security,” said Andrew Foreman,USAREUR-AF Chief Technology Officer.
“LiFi technologies answer all three of the serious issues associated with the RF portion of the spectrum. First, due to the low probability of detection, jamming, and intrusion, FSO and LiFi offer an extremely survivable form of communications when in direct conflict with a near-peer adversary,” he said.
