Rohm has developed a 32bit digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) for high quality audio systems.

The BD34301EKV is the first of a 32bit series of device Rohm calls MUS-IC. The design delivers a signal to noise ratio of 130dB ratio and total harmonic distortion and noise (THD+N) of -115dB for high quality sound reproduction. A customizable digital filter supports the creation of the ideal sound sought by audio equipment manufacturers.

The BD34301EKV-EVK-001 evaluation boards to test the performance of the DAC sold via distributor channels.

The audio DAC is one of the most important components for determining the quality in audio equipment. Rohm has used its experience with sound quality design technology to extract the full amount of information from sound sources.

The BD34301EKV DAC emphasizes ‘spatial resonance’, ‘sense of scale’ and ‘quietness’, which are qualities important for reproducing classical music. Original sound quality design technology makes it possible to successfully reproduce the target sound quality by incorporating a circuit in the signal processing block to check audio quality.

The BD34301EKV has been used in the digital circuit block of the flagship SACD/CD player D-10X from Luxman, a manufacturer of high-end audio equipment. “The sound is natural and flat in all bands, making it easy to listen for extended periods of time,” said Masakazu Nagatsuma, Director and General Manager of the Development department at Luxman.

The part is in production now and available through mainstream distributors.
